I have always dreamed of going to Hawaii ever since I was young to view all the amazing scenery the islands have to offer. I would always see beautiful pictures online of Hawaiian sunsets, luscious green mountains, tropical flowers, and of course their volcanoes. It wasn't until last spring when Kevin and I were discussing our vacation plans for the following summer when we decided to travel to Hawaii. We both didn't want to go to another all-inclusive resort because we had already been to 3 (Cuba twice & Mexico) and we wanted something different. We wanted an adventure and we knew Hawaii would offer us all of our needs and more. Once Kevin was given the okay from his bosses to take time off, we started planning our entire schedule for the duration of our trip a month ahead. Since we were only going for 9 days, we needed to make sure we were making the most out of our trip by planning each day with a whole list of things to do and places to eat. Our plan was to stay in Oahu for the first 4 days, take a day trip to the Big Island on the 5th day, and then stay in Maui for the remaining days.
As soon as we arrived in Oahu, we went to pick up our rental car near the airport and were given a special deal to upgrade to a Mustang convertible for $25 more a day, so we went for it! Our first stop was at Walmart to buy some water and food for breakfast since our daily schedule started around 5 am everyday. After dropping off our luggage at the hotel, we decided to walk to the main strip of Waikiki to explore all the shops.
Our first food experience in Hawaii was at Pacific Garlic Shrimp which is an outdoor food stand. For a detailed review about this place, please visit >> this blog post <<
After a quick delicious bite at Pacific Garlic Shrimp, we walked around everywhere and stumbled upon a shaved ice stand with many people standing around enjoying their desserts. I've read many reviews on the popularity of shaved ice in Hawaii and so I knew we had to get one to see what all the hype was about. We explored around Waikiki until our feet got tired and decided it was time to find a place for dinner. We found a flyer that was advertising Korean BBQ from the famous franchise Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong. We've been to this franchise in Korea and know first hand that the food is great so we had to check it out, especially if it was in Hawaii! How cool is that?

After dinner we went straight back to the hotel to rest because we had to wake up early for the next day which was filled with sightseeing and some hiking.
The first day in Hawaii was awesome even though we didn't do many activities. Everything from the beautiful weather to the kind people of Hawaii, was a perfect start to an amazing adventure.
Here is a video I put together of our first day in Oahu. Enjoy! =)
