<b>Cuisine:</b> Korean BBQ<br />
<b>Rating:</b> 5/5<br />
<br />
Whenever people ask me to list the top must-haves in Korea, the first thing I mention is Korean Han-u beef. I cannot tell them enough how important it is to try it when in Seoul because the experience is incredible! Han-u is a breed of cattle in Korea that is well known for its top quality meat. Han-u is mainly enjoyed by cooking it Korean barbecue style with many side dishes to accompany it. People usually don't use any sauces or spices besides salt because the main focus is on the flavour of the beef.<br />
<br />
After trying Han-u at several different restaurants around Seoul, we've found the best place that serves top quality Han-u with impeccable service. Han-u Maeul is a restaurant located within the meat market, also known as Majang-Dong, that serves a wide variety of premium cuts of Han-u (1++ meats are known to be the best quality of Han-u). This restaurant is very popular, and many politicians and celebrities are known to dine here. Since this place can become extremely busy, reservations should be made in advance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5zC0RwBllzqT8FWNlsIa5Boa0nUh4Eprrmh8PZABGoBeQdWZKC3Vv5tMbu9vde7efQG8AP-cSK5lBrst7KpOeCaoXWOyllHhK4ZTxz0hxdh-JgErB3ZjTI-Ojko9dsI3xxjKA_fII31cm/s640/k1.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
Upon entering, you are taken to your table and they serve you all the side dishes right away. When choosing a meat, you go back to the front desk area where there is a refrigerator containing all the cuts of Han-u in packages with prices, just like at a supermarket. After choosing your meat, you let them know which ones you have chosen and you can start grilling your meat right away.<br />

<b>1++ Han-u Ribeye Steak 꽂등심 (<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">₩40,000)</span></span></b></div>
<br />
This ribeye steak is called Flower Marbled Sirloin (Kkot Deungsim 꽂등심) due to the flower pattern of the marbling. This cut is a popular choice among many because of the wonderful fat throughout meat and reasonable prices. When you bite into the beef, you get a gush of delicious juices that has a watery consistency and not greasy at all. It is full of flavour and extremely tender. Simply amazing! For four people, we ordered 3 of the ribeyes which ranged from <span style="background-color: white; text-align: center;">₩37,000 to </span><span style="background-color: white; text-align: center;">₩42,000 each (approximately $42-$48 CAD).</span><br />

<b>1++ Han-u Chuck Flap Tail 살치살 (<span style="background-color: white;">₩62,000)</span></b></div>
<br />
This cut of Han-u (Salchisal 살치살) is thinner with tons of marbling which can be quite expensive. For <span style="background-color: white; text-align: center;">₩62,000 (~$70 CAD), the pack contained around 6 pieces of meat. This was our favourite cut of Han-u because the intense marbling gave the meat a soft and buttery texture that melted in our mouths. With each bite, there was an explosion of juices! We ended up ordering two of these packs because they were totally worth it.</span><br />

<b>Doenjang Jjigae 된장찌개(<span style="background-color: white;">₩12,000)</span></b></div>
<br />
After we finished the meat, we ordered Doenjang Jjigae (Soybean paste stew) to end off our incredible meal. The jjigae had pieces of Han-u brisket which was very flavourful and delicious.<br />
<br />
Whenever I look back at our food journey in Korea, I could never forget the amazing experiences I've had tasting Korean Han-u beef, especially at this restaurant. It was our second time dining at Han-u Maeul on two different vacations, and they did not disappoint. They provided the best service by always making sure our side dishes were full and that we had a wonderful dining experience. It was also very kind of them to give us Yukhoe on the house. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone looking to try Han-u in Seoul because you are ensured top quality meat with outstanding service.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00890443663607104044noreply@blogger.com0Majang-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, South Korea37.5674562 127.0406782999999737.5548702 127.02050829999997 37.5800422 127.06084829999996tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-176638879273878968.post-27550905098671062032016-10-27T23:08:00.002-04:002016-10-27T23:11:06.884-04:00Flaming Bull<br />

<br />
Flaming Bull is a fusion restaurant that offers their take on Taiwanese dishes that are elevated in taste and style. They're most popular for their beef noodle soup, but there are other great dishes that are worth trying.<br />
<br />
I was recently invited by Sweven Media to try Flaming Bull's Halloween dinner menu which will be available starting Friday, October 28th to 31st. The menu is a set course that consists of three appetizers (salad, soup and tacos), main course and dessert.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWM_r6EB97NSUbyyJ4-MJcFkn-EezvWn3LM6A0d9ViXMWnl3YSSV6oiis56e-uVBWNA4ae3AOYml5BREr7RVLEGCopytzIq4hyphenhyphenSqEZT-Wa2D5-f4w6r2zDfsk6FFCBvQysnnSreRKT88Wc/s640/bull13.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The interior of the restaurant was modern with a wooden theme throughout the place which was beautiful.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguhyphenhyphenycUnfpP7a89F1l8_dkX8eXzUnFffnMQuw3q_mEAnKSX9Bp-Ywys9XvuojH3O9gbpCTRsWcDJJdKMSLjFWebE0hSAhNAsyVSu7gEZ_BI2E80UQrGp34ZpQi4UeM4ZXxGwZP32hvCTs4/s640/bull1.JPG" width="640" /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Seafood Salad </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
They started us off with a Seafood Salad which contained a variety of seafood including shrimp, octopus, mussels and clams. The vegetables chosen for this dish went well with the seafood and were crispy and light, which was quite refreshing. One thing to note was that the clams were a bit overpowering since it was naturally more stronger in flavour compared to the octopus and shrimp.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoeXFeOuESpgHjhy13Zf0ghWirzDSfLL-Plt_WzzIVJPyeu8LpZ3hpT1Z8vyyYCxC5JvPEWZQfjvGSg4IMgKw-SE2rYeDPVRSgXYhTeit11bLF7EvYCyw7a2KiOKyA3nQPwaw51lsDk-4l/s640/bull2.JPG" width="640" /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Pumpkin Soup </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I always enjoy a hot bowl of soup to warm me up in Fall and this pumpkin soup was perfect for the chilly weather we were having! The soup was very creamy with rich flavours from the pumpkin. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-DLiH_382e9ssvanrQubWtQ7NWN-wkdK78Chn_mdzoE-dgSsIfLvXKfyfLI1IjVku4FZOP44VOtctKlUVMdjKWz3XiJkkgkWPWQw5r25AEkIB8ThDLd6Sb_x5Enx0jk0ldfrxjF7rdgCB/s640/bull3.JPG" width="640" /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3 in 1 Tacos: Beef</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We each received a plate that consisted of three different tacos: beef, chicken and pork. The beef taco had a delicious marinade, probably soy sauce based, that was packed with flavour. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpsrVnHTbbE19YgZmEuuC3Rrtnnomt__FXLUNvW2TArvhcf6bieUkEg5YCd4W04Zx956fK43YYzSshCO49h5iFdqGK5kSjO25pbQRwdm37lLLvogqg17XJaTxWvrqi5OH7zGAChsOjye-E/s640/bull4.JPG" width="640" /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3 in 1 Tacos: Chicken</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The chicken taco was the lighter one out of the three. The chicken was very moist and had a sauce that was light and a bit on the sweeter side. This was also very good.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlJIMXAKXzKH2W9GzWrV-bDprbmdqrOnkYuITc31WBul5OhZW1_NqCMkcE1t_q1SU9zfn2GTQa61_HEhW8LuxeAfWfAp87pKNXd9wdIMVSHxgDRHs7geF7OMmxq_2FQCD6Tj66En4QasE5/s640/bull5.JPG" width="640" /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3 in 1 Tacos: Pork</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The pork taco was definitely my favourite out of the three! The pork marinade and sauce topping reminded me bulgogi (Korean marinated beef) which tasted so good. I liked how they added red cabbage to add texture and balance in flavour. This is a must-have!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I really enjoyed the Sichuan Style Beef Noodle soup. The broth was rich in flavour, yet light at the same time. The spices and herbs that were used to make this broth reminded me of Vietnamese Pho, which I absolutely love. The noodles were cooked al dente and they soaked up the soup nicely. I liked how they torched the beef for this soup because it added smokiness to the beef which was very tasty. </div>

The Beef Fried Rice Teppanyaki didn't really stand out to me. Although the concept was nice, it would have been better if they added more sauce and possibly use the marinated beef from the taco for this dish (that would be great!).<br />

The chocolate fudge dessert was not only looked cute, but tasted very good as well. I liked how the chocolate was rich but not overly sweet. Perfect end to our meal.<br />

A few hours after our first visit to Giovanni's Haleiwa location, we were getting hungry again and so we decided to drop by the Kahuku location to have more shrimp (haha). The shrimp truck was located in a busy area with other food vendors nearby. The parking lot was packed but we were able to find a spot.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-l86Rakkzb5B-RPmX9qhzxatiO6x6t2dEQTAvy3mx3cMrMbe208uVPuT7PKcUMa0FjvxS8BYyRXROLnLDT9zUq0KNZAQ-6pMHIW54agXCptbFUI0ZDtkvpcWKgpalU5c9_yVE8W4A3oYr/s640/giovannis4.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
There were many people ordering from the truck, but there were many tables and seats to accommodate everyone.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUa6WaWebzDRLFzdeu35rkuMgtEwoPFZMNocLWMwMdYWf5t8zYivhb0OB89eGua0hV4FGXFCepO5haikzrMwGdm-t2sHxh0nA1dsXDnly6gQOarUUJLyGXT0NEI_cfwPzqVF8xHv2LjnwR/s640/giovannis5.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
This time around, Kevin ordered the Shrimp Scampi Platter so that he could actually enjoy the shrimp and, boy did he love it! The shrimp tasted just as amazing as the Haleiwa location, showing consistency in both locations. Since we both ordered a platter each again, we were stuffed by the end of our meal.<br />
<br />
Overall, I would say both locations served delicious shrimp platters, with both offering quick service and consistent flavours. I highly recommend Giovanni's Shrimp Scampi Platter because it was the best I've ever had!<br />

I can't believe we missed out on Giovanni's Shrimp Truck the first time we visited Oahu in 2015! Giovanni's is the most raved about shrimp truck in Oahu, with visitors from all over the world stopping by to grab a bite at this popular joint. Currently, there are two locations with the original location in Kahuku and the second in Haleiwa. You can't miss the truck as it is covered in written messages and names from customers that have dined there.<br />
<br />
On our second visit to Oahu earlier this year in May, we made it our mission to try Giovanni's at least once. Since we already made plans to visit Kaena Point State Park, we decided to have lunch at Giovanni's after our long and brutal hike (I was dying lol). The closest location was in Haleiwa which wasn't a long drive from the park.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-mvPplBd2A_omEjFeH8fC2mVC7upMouU8BjDptJmlReoFJ6XkldqPXSg2TyjBdR1d2d2eg8KC9-Dz2a2BOyv7vPU4mDvJFu4h__0Io45nZoLlNm_VpjFxRE5BDuv_1YT4zROWUrozhRTs/s640/20160512_172213.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqFtg-n0soR9eUGwCq0n9ZX5GgoAheSCD2F7s28rhjamUK5XbTUcf1hYPrMPGnjYOkgLJasGmXOokMFe791EPi-NMTSUtuRuwH_kUdp4XYyNjujzb0yqNw-clMO4_qa88cpB_KxpCgdYbX/s640/20160512_172429.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
I signed both our names on the side of the truck! If you ever visit this location, find my name! =)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDuICDXHtacUOfKyknd0IpgEQycHlTjy3UUYsa1iVX1RT594hHVgXh3Ch3qxJ8632YpC8D_mA3_t1aWvpx2cXlurzkVHXyZZVsD7iljaEfxjQRJoMdgz-OXXTv9h9RkfssE9od4sPiRjW9/s640/20160512_172258.jpg" width="360" /></div>
<br />
Keeping it simple. Giovanni's menu included three different shrimp platters, a hot dog platter and two sides (rice and macaroni salad). Less is always more!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhp8y0XBizCCWK_WJIndm_W750yvtXxU2_egeSWqZN_lWEF___IbSntCUE0iLktZwPYaR7yGFzNi-Iag6bTJ2p19QC8ylS5WB7HAk0CNNVJqOFIupquhzn9Y7GRL0UzXCAkoO7NKxkBnEZH/s640/giovannis1.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
We were lucky that there weren't many people at the Haleiwa location. We ordered our platters as soon as we got there and found an empty table in front of the truck. The service was fast and efficient, and we got our orders in under 10 minutes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBG6QO_9jw98Cnkh9r1QAjChMZ584OelJ-icqsGDUzrFCFmXyeKgLgN5H4PqiYArWyvfhyphenhyphenA6QqWytsauBqTEjwcrewgK_LJDCEKp9OKOLRtcourDHrMlbVJPptzaxwdFrTtiv8uBMe6PI8/s640/giovannis2.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Hot & Spicy Shrimp Platter </b>($14)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Covered in Giovanni's award winning hot sauce.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Since Kevin loves spicy food, he ordered their Hot & Spicy Shrimp Platter. They weren't kidding when they said it was very spicy! Although the sauce was good on it's own, Kevin said it overpowered the shrimp and was too hot for him to handle (and he can handle spice). Just looking at this picture again makes my mouth water. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixxbcOehMW0tpzBJW-U8gj6cjqQMIZD6NOV7v30cR_yKJ3bgiereg4XHV6BVXVLytqQiqEolucSZBlcUOVOP27yUU4TMN_3n9foOMvxO8S8u-Ov_O2Yi_qiCGuiXU7JjkhOD0S_sP-o_Q_/s640/giovannis3.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Scampi Shrimp Platter</b> ($14)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Marinated in olive oil, fresh chopped garlic, lemon/butter and sauteed in a pan.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I ordered their most popular dish, the Scampi Shrimp Platter. The aroma from the garlic and butter was incredible and right away I knew it was going to taste amazing. The shrimp were big and juicy, and it soaked up all the garlic sauce giving it so much flavour, but not overpowering the dish. There were two scoops of rice which went perfectly with the shrimp, soaking up all the delicious sauce. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
I can honestly say that Giovanni's scampi shrimp was the best shrimp I've ever had! Although Kevin didn't enjoy his shrimp as much as I did, it wasn't the end for him. We ended up going to the other Giovanni's location in Kahuku to have their scampi shrimp again, in a span of a few hours (lol)! I will be posting my experience of that location as well.</div>

It's that time of year again, another birthday celebration and another year older. I used to get excited about my birthday, but now since I'm nearing 30 (turning 29), it kinda scares me! I'm not saying 29 is old, but it surprises me how fast time has gone by. With that said, we should all live each day to the fullest!<br />
<br />
Since Kevin is always busy at work on the weekdays, we decided to celebrate my birthday early on a Saturday. He told me to choose whichever restaurant I wanted to try, and so I chose Scaramouche based on the great reviews I read online. Our dinner reservation was at 6:00 PM, which was perfect for great lighting, the essentials for a foodie! If you're wondering about where to park, Scaramouche offers complimentary valet parking, or if you're like Kevin who doesn't want anyone driving his car, street parking is available as well (lol).<br />

<b>Complimentary Amuse-bouche </b><br />
Smoked salmon puff pastry</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Our server brought us each an amuse-bouche, a smoked salmon puff pastry, which was light and flavourful. It was a nice treat before our meals.<br />
<br />
We each ordered a glass of Murphy-Goode Cabernet Sauvignon ($15) which went perfectly with our meal.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Yellowfin Tuna Tartare</b> ($24)<br />
Soy marinade, avocado purée, radish, jicama, crème frâiche and
finger lime. <br />
Squid ink tempura crumbs and fresh coriander.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
With a stunning presentation, this appetizer boasted elegance and exquisite flavours. All the unique elements on this dish brought different textures and tastes, which worked well together. The tuna was light in flavour and not overpowered by the soy marinade. The radish, jicama, coriander and finger lime added a refreshing touch. The <span style="text-align: center;">avocado purée and </span><span style="text-align: center;">crème frâiche were both light and creamy with distinct flavours. And the squid ink tempura crumbs balanced the dish out with a delicious, crunchy texture. </span><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Cavatelli</b> ($22)</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
This appetizer was a part of their specials of the day which included cavatelli pasta and an assortment of vegetables. The pasta and vegetables were cooked al dente and had light and tangy flavours from the sauce. I personally enjoyed this dish while Kevin wasn't a fan because there were too many vegetables and no meat (haha).</div>
<div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Lamb</b> ($48) <br />
Rack with crispy mustard crust. Swiss chard, pickled curry cherry tomatoes
and carrot purée. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Spicy eggplant relish and toasted walnut bread crumbs.
Natural jus.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Kevin ordered the lamb and I was able to try some. The lamb was delicious and juicy, with quite a strong curry flavour on the crust. Kevin said his dish was good, but he didn't like how there were too many flavours going on at once and would have preferred a simpler dish with less sauce.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> Grilled Filet Mignon </b>($49) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Triple ‘A’ Ontario beef. Mushrooms, sliced shallot, haricot vert and <br />
crispy
pressed potato tossed in parsley garlic butter. Bordelaise sauce.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I ordered the Grilled Filet Mignon cooked medium rare which came out pre-sliced into three pieces. The steak was cooked beautifully and was very tender. The Bordelaise sauce was smooth and rich in flavour, which went perfectly with the steak.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Since we had movie reservations later on in the night, we decided to go for dessert near the theatre. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at Scaramouche, from their fantastic service to their aesthetically pleasing dishes. I would love to go back again and try other delicious menu items!<br />

Cartoon dim sum has been the craze in Hong Kong, where steamed buns with cartoon faces are squeezed with the filling oozing out to make it seem like it's vomiting (or something else lol). It was only a matter of time that it was picked up here in the GTA, particularly in Mississauga at Blue Lagoon Seafood Master.<br />
<br />
I was invited to a tasting event at Blue Lagoon Seafood Master hosted by Sweven Media, to try out their new and fun cartoon dim sum creations. The restaurant serves a wide range of Chinese seafood, dim sum and barbecue dishes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>Piggy Egg Yolk Bun</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The piggy egg yolk bun looked too cute to eat! In order to make your piggy bun "vomit", you need to poke a hole under the snout with a chopstick and squeeze the bun on the sides until it oozes out. Apart from the fun and cuteness, the bun tasted very delicious! The egg yolk filling was a mix between sweet and savory, and since it was on the sweeter side, it's probably best to finish your dim sum meal with with this bun.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another fun cartoon bun that you can play with! The filling is the same as the Piggy Egg Yolk Bun. </div>

<b>Steamed Shrimp Dumpling with Chili Sauce</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All their dim sum were quite large and came in 3 per basket. This steamed dumpling contained large pieces of shrimp inside which tasted very fresh and delicious, and the addition of the chili sauce on top added extra flavour. </div>

<b>Steamed Vegetarian Dumpling </b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These were beautifully made with the soft touches of green colour on the wrapper and goji berry on top. The vegetables inside were also very fresh, perfect for those seeking a vegetarian option for dim sum.</div>

<b>Steamed House Meat Dumpling (Har Gow)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
You can't go wrong with the classic har gow! The skin of the dumpling was soft with the perfect thickness, and inside contained large pieces of shrimp. Simply delicious! </div>

<b>Steamed Crab Meat with White Egg Dumpling</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
These dumplings had cute orange eyes to make them look like tiny fish! This dumpling was my favourite out of them all. There was fresh crab meat, along with egg whites inside the dumpling which had light, yet tasty flavours. I highly recommend this!</div>

We had a big dim sum feast for dinner (a first for us all) with many classic dishes, as well as new ones like the cartoon buns. Since I had such a delicious dining experience at Blue Lagoon Seafood Master, I will definitely go back there to have their dim sum on a Saturday!<br />
<br />
Special thanks goes out to Sweven Median and Blue Lagoon Seafood Master for having me at the tasting event!<br />
<br />
[Although the dishes provided at the event were complimentary, all opinions are my own and not the views of the restaurant.]<br />

This was my 3rd time visiting Jacobs and it deserves yet another review. Kevin and I were randomly craving delicious steak and so we knew Jacobs would fulfill our mouthwatering cravings! Since it was a last minute decision on a Saturday afternoon, the only time available was around 5 PM at the bar. We didn't mind where we sat, as long as we were able to reserve a seat that day!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioHUQAEbc_kwrBWST8Ar1bBUz0lHkIaWXLoaqJbbNYlg69PIZgyMWnkzpo00OxVVDWFe3VWy2zfY9fdwm_xPETxsPLVbaccQUO_e3Ic0RnRBaRvEmjsLqNGhlLtJ2Cc8lmgavIGHms56rH/s640/20160806_175939.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
The staff at the bar were very friendly and attentive, helping us choose our steaks based on our needs. We were looking for a steak with lots of marbling for a juicy, melt in your mouth texture. I remember the last time we came I ordered their Australian Wagyu and really enjoyed it, so we both ended up ordering the same steak.<br />

<b>7 oz. California Striploin AAco Westholme Wagyu</b> ($112)</div>

<br />
We each ordered a 7 oz. Australian Wagyu cooked medium rare. It was incredible! With each bite, you can feel the flow of juices coming out of the meat from all the marbling. If you like your steak extremely juicy (not the oily kind), I highly recommend this steak. I know it's very expensive for 7 oz., but the quality and taste makes it worth it.<br />

We had another great experience at Jacobs, from their amazing food to the wonderful staff. <br />
Muncheez had been on my go-to restaurant list ever since I saw their 5 star rating on Yelp! I wanted to see what all the hype was about, and sure enough I was able to experience the quality of their food first hand.<br />
<br />
Cynthia, a foodie friend of mine, had invited me to an outing at Muncheez to try out their popular crepes and to have a fun time with other Toronto foodies. The shop was quite small, but it had enough seats to accommodate customers and there were several people getting their orders to go, so seating wasn't a problem. The staff was extremely friendly and had the best customer service. They had an extensive menu selection including all day breakfast, savory and sweet crepes, as well as an option to create your own crepe.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
arugula, Havarti cheese and mustard.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I already had my eye on one particular crepe after seeing a picture on their Instagram. It was the 'New York's Own' which included pastrami, mushrooms, kosher pickles, red onions, arugula, Havarti cheese and mustard. The crepe was placed on a metal holder which made it very easy to eat considering how big and hot it was. Not only did it look amazing, it tasted delicious! I loved how fresh the ingredients were and all the different flavours went great together. The crepe was cooked perfectly, with a soft and chewy texture. I didn't think that the crepe would be filling, but I was quite full after finishing everything.<br />
<br />
It's safe to say that Muncheez definitely lived up to the hype! With their fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation and amazing staff, I know that Muncheez will continue to be very successful. Next time I'm in the area, I need to try out their sweet crepes!<br />

<br />
This past year, I had become obsessed with Thai food, whether that was attempting to make it at home or going out to restaurants to have it. Apart from the popular curry and pad thai, I had never stepped out of my comfort zone to try other items, and it wasn't until I visited Pai when I started discovering new and exciting dishes.<br />
<br />
Pai has gained massive popularity throughout the years, keeping the restaurant constantly busy during lunch and dinner hours. They offer distinct flavours of Northern Thai cuisine, giving customers a taste of Thailand.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Gai Satay</b> ($12.50)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Grilled curry marinated chicken on a skewer with peanut sauce</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Their chicken skewers were probably the I've ever had! The chicken was very juicy and tender, and the peanut sauce added a delicious mix of nutty, sweet and tangy flavours.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>Laap Salad </b>($15)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ground pork in a homemade northern Thai laap paste</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
with peppercorn, garlic, shallots, galangal, lemongrass,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
shrimp paste and fennel served with lettuce leaves and sticky rice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This was my first time trying a Laap Salad and I was intrigued by all the different ingredients that went into making this dish. It reminded me of having Korean "ssam", which is a dish where you wrap meat, rice and sauce in a leafy green vegetable. We weren't quite sure how to properly eat the salad, but we ate it as how we would with ssam, wrapping the pork and rice in the lettuce. I really enjoyed this dish because the pork mix had a delicious complexity of flavours with a strong kick from the chilies. The slices of cucumber added a refreshing touch to help balance out the spice.<br />

<b>Starter Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp </b>($6.50)<br />
A small savoury, spicy and sour soup with<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
If you're a fan of sour foods like me, you will love this tom yum soup! The soup was very rich, spicy and sour, a great pick-me-up for someone who's feeling under the weather.</div>

Sauce: nam plik nam pla (fish sauce, garlic, chili and lime)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The pad gra prow with beef was one of the new dishes I fell in love with. The stir fried ground beef was extremely flavourful and mouthwatering. I like to cut the egg into small pieces and mix everything together, drizzled with their fish sauce and chili oil. If you'd like to try a new dish, but not keen on being too adventurous, I highly recommend this dish!</div>

Fresh egg noodles in a golden curry topped with <br />
crispy noodles, coriander, green onions and shrimp.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Another fantastic new dish that I tried. The golden curry was delicious and had a thick and creamy consistency, and the egg noodles were very soft and fresh. I recommend the Khao Soi if you're looking for a hearty dish.</div>

I have to say that Pai is one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto and if I lived downtown I would probably eat there once a week. Check them out if you haven't already, you will fall in love with their food!</div>

Seafood boils have been the craze over the past several months after it was first introduced in Toronto, and now a few other restaurants have launched around the GTA offtering similar menu items.<br />
<br />
One area where you wouldn't expect a seafood boil to open is in Vaughan, Ontario. Many restaurants prefer to open in other surrounding areas, so it was a surprise to see a new exciting restaurant open close to home! With that said, The Boiling Harbour is the first seafood boil to open it's doors in Vaughan. It's about time Vaughan started receiving more love!<br />
<br />
I first learned about The Boiling Harbour after I received an invite to their pre-launch media tasting event hosted by <a href="http://www.cravethe6ix.com/" target="_blank">CraveThe6ix</a> and Jenny (<a href="https://www.instagram.com/itsjenyu/" target="_blank">itsjenyu</a>) from Instagram. Situated in a plaza outside of Vaughan Mills, The Boiling Harbour was tucked away in a corner which could be hard to spot. The exterior of the restaurant looked quite small, but don't be fooled by the entrance. Upon entering, you could see how spacious the restaurant was, with many seating throughout the place. They also had an outdoor patio located at the back of the restaurant.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Boiling Harbour's interior had a wooden theme throughout the restaurant to make you feel like you were dining at a harbour. They even had their logo custom designed on three surfboards for decor at the front of the restaurant. </div>

We were all surprised to receive a full basket of their Loaded Lobster Fries. Each basket contained a whole lobster with fries and a cabbage salad. The lobster meat pulled away from the shell effortlessly and was extremely juicy, and the garlic butter sauce + garlic aioli really flavoured the lobster nicely without overpowering the meat. And for the Cajun fries, they tasted incredible! I couldn't stop eating them!</div>

<b>Seafood Boil</b></div>
<br />
Each table received bags of king crab legs, shrimp and mussels cooked in their Harbour sauce with medium heat. The Harbour sauce had some garlic and Cajun flavours which tasted great with the seafood. The mussels and shrimp were large and meaty, and the king crab legs were very succulent. From the boil, my favourite would have to be their shrimp.<br />

<b>Look for my name when you visit!</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Overall, I had a wonderful experience at The Boiling Harbour's tasting event. I enjoyed all the food so much that I went back with my boyfriend and my mom to feast on their loaded lobsters and shrimp & mussels boil! Even the second time around, their food came out just as delicious as the first time which shows that they put a lot of effort into every dish that they serve. Although their menu items can become quite pricey once you order a bunch of dishes, I personally think it's worth it because of the quality and taste of their seafood. Come out to Vaughan and check them out!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
[Although the dishes provided at the event were complimentary, all opinions are my own and not the views of the restaurant. The second time I visited the restaurant, we paid for everything in full.]<br />

Whenever summer rolls around, the first dish that comes to my mind is mul naengmyeon 물냉면, a Korean cold noodle dish. Many, if not all, Koreans either seek out restaurants that offer naengmyeon or make it at home to cool them off in the summer heat.<br />
<br />
Naengmyeon has been around for a long time in Korea since the Goryeo Dynasty and is now popular not only throughout Korea, but in North America as well. There are two main variations of naengmyeon which include mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon. Mul Naengmyeon is served in an icy cold (sometimes slushy) broth with slices of beef, cucumber, Korean pear, pickled radish and half a boiled egg. Bibim Naengmyeon is served with a spicy red chili sauce and all the same toppings as mul naengmyeon. It is the cold temperature of the naengmyeon dishes that make it widely popular in the summer, but there are still many people who enjoy it all year round.<br />
<br />
One restaurant in Toronto that has people swarming to get their hands on their naengmyeon, is Cho Sun Ok. You will never see this restaurant empty on the weekends because they fill up with customers right when their doors open to when they close. One problem that this restaurant usually encounters is that they run out of stock throughout the day which can be an annoyance to customers. I remember so many times when we visited this restaurant and they either ran out of galbi tang or naengmyeon. Other than that major flaw, Cho Sun Ok is probably my favourite Korean restaurant in Toronto and I believe they serve the best tasting mul naengmyeon in this city!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYCV18-iqGTST5uQe2qylCHdabsrZIcYn9dXt-YJlQoxUmsxVLt9-zv2zZ71MpbOaX68PhoiTXsLzGWpFwXHQ5NHmBdxRZi8Desmk4PrOxZ6jRvpc7hgYQBQWQyUphduCTw9t8uqq43Rkb/s640/IMG_9903.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Mul Naengmyeon </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thin, chewy arrowroot noodles topped with their homemade red pepper sauce, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
sesame oil, pickled daikon, slivers of cucumber, a slice of pear and </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
a hard-boiled egg in their beef based icy broth.</div>
<br />
The mul naengmyeon is served in a large stainless steel bowl with the noodles in the centre and all the ingredients stacked on top. Surrounding the noodles is a cold slushy beef broth that has tangy and sweet flavours. Since the noodles can be very chewy and sometimes difficult to cut with your teeth, they offer to cut the noodles to make it easier to eat. I love how all the ingredients are refreshing on their own because they come together nicely and make this dish complete.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>Kimchi Jjim</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cho Sun Ok's aged kimchi braised with pork loin in their homemade sauce.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The perfect accompaniment to mul naengmyeon is their Kimchi Jjim. Since the kimchi is fermented for a long time, it is full of intense flavours with a delicious sourness, making it perfect to be cooked with pork. The pork loin is braised with the aged kimchi, resulting in extremely tender and juicy meat. You will not be disappointed with this dish!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If I could, I would eat these two dishes every day this summer because they're that amazing! If you have yet to try Cho Sun Ok's mul naengmyeon or kimchi jjim, I highly recommend you visit soon, preferably early in the afternoon, so that you can experience these mouth-watering dishes they have to offer.</div>

Oahu is full of surprises, from their breathtaking views to their delicious foods. The only problem you may encounter is where to eat your next meal because there are too many amazing choices and too little time! Not only does Oahu have great restaurants, they're also known for their delectable desserts.<br />
<br />
One famous bakery that has flourished since 1952 is Leonard's Bakery, a family business that specializes in their popular Malasada (introduced in 1953), a Portuguese doughnut without a hole. The bakery has attracted tons of visitors throughout the years and continues to be crowded with customers waiting to get their hands on fresh malasadas.<br />

Malasadas can be ordered with or without filling. If customers choose without filling, they have a choice to coat their malasadas with plain sugar, cinnamon or li-hing. For malasada puffs, customers can choose a custard, dobash (chocolate), haupia (coconut) or macadamia filling.<br />
<br />

After placing your order, the malasadas are made hot and fresh which are ready to be eaten right away!<br />

<br />
We brought the malasadas back to the hotel to enjoy them on the balcony.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7zcIdGZmMFQuHdTCgZGD9BhGciJmsk-TeJlTVOXJ9ZeufDyP4luhrTu-4ADiBLRYqV4GQ8CdL45ki753MtWx13AwrhDxfQvrczeYMMf-KYxQNb7ERbEs_y0M-hH-B9QCytne5nER-V3Kz/s640/leonards5.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
The malasadas were still very warm, making our mouths water before biting in! The pastry was extremely soft and tasty, packed with a lot of delicious cream filling. No matter how much filling they put in, the malasadas never got soggy. These were seriously out of this world!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXh2wm-gFcDPHjEM2FKJBBUvwe2UQd_ny_OXzQsLPUDvgTVic8AlLpdF6CofxctwKkWiw3epyh1b9CBDVWn68rMozns9RVaEaedn9zIb7Gb1veZJS8Si_raXYHfusfyKAyYdjlaHWsacW9/s640/leonards6.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
Since the malasadas were huge, we were only able to eat one and had to refrigerate the rest for the following days. Even though they were in the fridge, they still tasted incredible. Out of the three fillings I've tried, my favourite was their custard filling, with the haupia (coconut) coming in second.<br />
<br />
I'm so happy that I had a chance to try Leonard's Bakery because I was able to taste the malasadas that have gained popularity on the Island since 1953. I seriously can't wait for the day that I can have these amazing malasadas again! Until then, I'll keep looking at my photos and reminisce about my first bite.<br />

Musubi Cafe Iyasume was another place we couldn't visit last year because of our tight schedule, so it was down on my list of go-to places! Surprisingly, it was just down the street from our hotel at Hyatt Regency Waikiki which made it the perfect spot to have breakfast for one of the days we had to get up early since they opened at 6:30 AM.<br />

<b>Bacon and Egg Musubi </b></div>
<br />
This was the perfect breakfast meal because it contained a strip of bacon and egg! The rice was soft and the spam was delicious!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Fried Chicken</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
On our last day, we went back to Musubi Cafe Iyasume to have lunch because we really wanted their beef bowl. We also ordered their fried chicken to have on the side.<br />
<br />
The fried chicken was precooked and packaged on the table for a quick grab and go. They do, however, heat the chicken up for you if you wish to eat at the cafe. The chicken was a bit soggy, probably because they microwaved it. Minus the sogginess, the chicken tasted pretty good and would have been extra tasty if they were pan fried.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQnl7kZyfDvg5kn4T4Ka4XVTE0b-XIHz9BZHgEapOg3yU70gz_eERKehxj9VlJsPM5aagrUBgLNJli6E3mxG-MS71OVIl2P5I8_pwB1qMk0o3RMgUU0oNdDInuyKgQwFryfrV8rqMzGBvn/s1600/musubi5.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Beef Bowl</b> (large) </div>
<br />
This was the star of our meal (On both days we ordered it)! The beef was extremely soft and very tasty. The sauce they used to marinate the beef was savory with a bit of sweetness coming from the caramelized onions. This would have been great with a side of kimchi. Highly recommend this!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc0p2abR3nNN-jDb3CqjYW3WdioPAiW1UKOV3p2_a859_JM0l4zkbpywDPeBsXtdWzOV1nhlZ2qFT3LsonnWVUs-x8sof7egWTB9xJi7n_xcJq_0ZUtcRDQVJ1kNGREpLE4QFFN2vbH4Em/s1600/musubi6.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Spicy Tuna and Mayo Rice Ball</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Don't underestimate the size of musubi and rice balls because they're really filling! This rice ball was shaped into a triangle and filled with spicy tuna and mayo, then wrapped in nori. It was pretty good, but I preferred the musubi.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you're looking for a breakfast joint that offers quick meals to go or just looking for a place to grab a snack, I highly recommend Musubi Cafe Iyasume because they offer many delicious items that are prepared very fast and they have several pre-made bento boxes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
From all our dining experiences in Toronto and abroad, we have never come across a restaurant that offered mouth-watering dishes and a spectacular view that took our breaths away. The only restaurant that provided both of those amazing qualities was Haleiwa Joe's at Haiku Gardens.<br />
<br />
Haleiwa Joe's offers a mix of Hawaiian and Asian cuisines and currently has two locations, with the original restaurant located in North Shore. Both restaurants are very famous for their outstanding scenic views and high quality dishes.<br />
<br />
Last year when Kevin and I visited Oahu, we weren't able to dine at Haleiwa Joe's because the wait time was over 2 hours long, but this year we made sure to visit the restaurant no matter how long the wait would be. Luckily for us, we got there before the crowds of people and were seated within 10 minutes.<br />
<br />
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_N8tSpabPWab6zB_U1sACx9V3-UMdPSg2Xrpybe3Z_y4SoujFBvMnB_7WWDqp-s4spL7NAC1WRs_cTx9hGt9ZVElZeLMCB37wsowdFy-v4iam4BrARAFDVgDIpIDAfBhHb9ijDwx5l62D/s1600/joes12.JPG" /><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Haiku Gardens</b></div>
<br />
Before we got to our seats, we didn't expect such a breathtaking view or any view at all. Our table was directly facing the Haiku Gardens that showcased beautiful lush plants and a koi pond, and not too far out was the majestic Ko'olau mountain range. Since the restaurant had a covered patio, it allowed for a cool breeze to fill the place. Just sitting in front of the beautiful garden made us feel very happy and at peace. [This picture doesn't do it justice!]<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For our first appetizer, we ordered the Black & Blue Ahi. The ahi looked incredibly gorgeous with a ruby red colour. It was so fresh that the slices of ahi were translucent and melted in our mouths. The dipping sauce added a spicy kick to the dish that worked perfectly with the ahi. It was so good that we could have ordered another one, but we needed to try other dishes!</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
The Honey Mac Nut Shrimp was beautifully presented on a large crispy wonton wrapper with a generous amount of shrimp. <b>Sizzling Mushroom with Cheese </b>($8.45)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sauteed in their garlic-herb butter, served sizzling to the table</div>
<br />
We ordered the sizzling mushrooms after Kevin had smelled the mouthwatering aromas from another table! For $0.50 extra, we added parmesan cheese which melted nicely over the mushrooms. The dish was served with 3 slices of toast to enjoy with the mushrooms and butter. I personally love mushrooms so I knew it would taste amazing, which it did! The mushrooms had a wonderful smokey flavour that was softened by the garlic-herb butter. Another great appetizer!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
The baked fish looked so beautiful and elegant! We could tell that the chef really cared about all the dishes being served by carefully placing all the elements together so that it was pleasing to the eyes. This was definitely the case of eating with our eyes first. Not only did it look appetizing, the flavours were executed very well with an Asian twist. The fish was extremely fresh and moist, and the tomato dashi sauce brought a well balanced acidity to the overall dish.</div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
Yes, that's right, crab crusted fish! I loved how they used crab meat to give the fish a beautiful golden crust and a fresh sea taste, allowing all the natural flavours to shine through. The fish was very soft and flaky, and paired perfectly with the creamy mashed potatoes. Truly an outstanding dish!</div>

Haleiwa Joe's is one of those restaurants that truly excels in bringing you the best quality dishes, leaving no room for errors. With all the dishes we ordered, there wasn't one item we didn't enjoy because the presentations and flavours were bold, creative and phenomenal. For the high quality foods we were served, it was surprising to see how affordable the prices were since in Toronto those main courses could go anywhere from $35 and up. We definitely won't forget our amazing dining experience with the fantastic service, mouth-watering dishes, and breathtaking scenery. Everyone needs to dine here!</div>

<br />
Kualoa Ranch is a private nature reserve that offers many fun filled activities for people to enjoy, including horseback riding, ziplining, ATV tours and many more. For those spending the entire day checking out different activities, there is a cafe on site that offers breakfast and lunch in either buffet style or individual specials.<br />
<br />
Last year, Kevin and I visited Kualoa Ranch for their ATV tour and had such an incredible experience riding the ATVs while being in awe of the scenery, that we wanted to go back to try other fun activities. We planned an entire day at Kualoa Ranch with a catamaran ride in the morning and horseback riding in the afternoon. After our catamaran tour, we had lunch at Aunty Pat's Cafe which was located right near the entrance of the ranch.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I ordered the garlic shrimp platter that came with the standard two scoops of rice and coleslaw. I find that everywhere you go in Hawaii, they always make delicious garlic shrimp! So this, of course, was very tasty with wonderful garlic and butter flavours in the shrimp.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Kevin ordered the fried chicken which also came with two scoops of rice and coleslaw. The chicken was very juicy with a nice crispy crust, but unfortunately they over seasoned it with salt which made it pretty difficult for him to eat. Without all that excess salt, I'm sure the fried chicken would have been perfect.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Overall, I really enjoyed the garlic shrimp and would definitely order it again the next time I visit, but hopefully the over seasoned chicken was only a one time thing or else they'll need to change the amount of salt they use.</div>

<br />
Whenever I'm craving for a soup that is warm and comforting, I like having Korean beef bone soup or oxtail soup. One restaurant in Toronto that makes them the best is Lee Nam Jang. They're known for their wide variety of soups and stews, but they also offer a great selection of meat and noodle dishes.<br />
<br />
Last Friday the weather was fairly warm, but we had a lot of gusty winds throughout the city which made me want Korean-style comfort food.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh73kxcAgltZ6iDQvsQjAsLiEC6Ungxe6Ti0mgtlfkUC8pOmK-Qg5fd5Mg4LURBtOljUQAwqQJdMbK4MQyGZcMgwezVP5AOCIiPwFqzQiZk9VSARK3gU-dxzlypFoQtvydqbprRimwgnk4I/s400/20160610_210632.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Oxtail Soup (Gomtang)</b> <b>한방꼬리곰탕</b> ($16.95)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Gomtang is a traditional Korean soup that requires an extensive amount of time to boil all the meat and bones to get a rich and flavourful broth. The restaurant provides you with salt, pepper and green onions for you to season the soup to your liking. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRWgzI1wiSOTpd-8jZg80YEcKcoDxn41qqHF0zFFqosA_PHzH_18d-hhve1s3gGndDhqpFQPHW7zC3x0X1PP3hYSPvlvZsctEvVwmmxBMMkcQK_mW57AjZ9qXX4uUqbMZ6ZYVxLqk-X1Tj/s400/20160610_210839.jpg" width="400" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I usually season the soup with salt and lots of green onions. I also like to mix my rice into the soup so that the rice can soak up all the flavours. The broth was very hearty and the oxtail meat was very tender and soft. This meal totally hit the spot!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieykt6ddXLXUH-ptAC50yf4Wy5VJGgGNaEuSgXOnMTJDEgCADdX-zN27lI4jLClOHkCnFOdQ4ndZQ47JkAE3vALSlG1_AcLsI6DvqepQLyGXUAZWB3_rxi7iJSr8bwBnJYSz-YTKNS2iEf/s640/20160610_210444.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Bibim Naengmyeon 비빔냉면</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Kevin, on the other hand, decided to go for something more refreshing like bibim naengmyeon. Bibim naengmyeon is a cold noodle dish topped with a spicy sauce, slices of picked daikon, cucumber, beef and half a boiled egg. Many people in the summer enjoy eating bibim naengmyeon or mul naengmyeon because it's the most refreshing meal to cool you down in the heat.<br />
<br />
Kevin ordered the naengmyeon combo that came with LA galbi. He said that the naengmyeon tasted okay and nothing special, but he enjoyed the galbi which was very flavourful and tender.<br />
<br />
I would definitely recommend Lee Nam Jang for their beef bone or oxtail soups because they make them the best in Toronto and it's the perfect comfort food on a gloomy, windy or cold day.</div>
<br />

<br />
Many people have either been to or know about Piggy's Restaurant located in Thornhill. Piggy's Restaurant is a Korean BBQ joint that offers a wide range of different style meat for BBQ, as well as regular Korean dishes such as naengmyeon, jjigae, mandu and much more. Not too long ago, they opened a second location near Bloor and Spadina, called Little Piggy's. The downtown location is quite different than Piggy's Restaurant because the interior is more hip and trendy, and they offer different items on their menu.<br />
<br />
I first learned about Piggy's second location after being contacted by the owner Cindy to be a part of their mini opening. Unfortunately, I couldn't attend the event because I was away in Korea and Hawaii, but she kindly invited me to visit after my vacation. When I was back in Toronto, we made arrangements for me to go in for lunch with Kevin to try their BBQ and a few other dishes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<b>Mix BBQ Combo </b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Pork belly, Korean-style beef and garlic pork</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All the meat is pre-grilled over charcoal and ready for table top cooking. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJwZe5giiArrGfbRGtcw6WqwSF_WuLOUJJ0kaJvIF9OrbiDelqzDXlPWzPlOmEhqWdpdXbpw8FWBqMo270l9d9LL8ARZ6IYbZ2Au67oM3pFCBPkUpRGDGuzC8H8LlxfzDkbmo-YNHvUbyp/s640/piggys4.JPG" width="640" /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Unlike the first location where they use a built in charcoal grill, Little Piggy's uses a portable cooktop that cooks the meat slowly and is easy to clean up. I personally prefer charcoal grills because the meat cooks at a faster rate and has nice smokey flavours.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3aksLHewOIrtR09nCAt89tfe7dSGmez4C_ze501In_Hc1zGZcREVMjr_WpFQQKC1i8Vl0aLdA_9HdVDl02mvVFoW47FmLfYwnVCcndTddVwdErAz6-exCZf9ZkrljTj9_p4gWSP_UDXOH/s640/piggys16.jpg" width="640" /></div>
<br />
The BBQ combo came with a variety of tasty side dishes, including salad with black sesame dressing, Korean lettuce salad (sangchu geotjeori), seaweed soup (miyeok guk), and more. Like every Korean BBQ restaurant, they give you dipping sauces for your meat such as sesame oil seasoned with salt and pepper, samjang, and a sweet and tangy sauce with thin slices of onions.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgatJNLnW19YBAc8qfo1eZ0o81zOwMs0LaDtTBQn53rcAJWLvnC2B7Aba9Q2gn1CS0CFXmpzb7f1RU4eoMW9DzqIpL5PEoAXXdVvxt0_lx22-D5Fsn1vjmkfc5cD7doFxwi8BA3NDzfmFt4/s640/piggys2.JPG" width="640" /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Soybean paste soup with onion, zucchini and tofu</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
At this location, they charge you $2 extra to add two bowls of rice and one doenjang jjigae. Although you have to pay for the stew, they give you a pretty large bowl that is more than enough for two people. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really liked how they presented this dish with the egg surrounding the fried rice because it reminded me of BBQ restaurants in Korea where they add steamed egg around the charcoal grill. Although the dish looked amazing, the fried rice and egg tasted quite bland and I would have liked it if the kimchi flavour was stronger. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it.</div>

This was amazing! The red chili sauce had a kick of spiciness with a mix of sweetness in it. The ramyun noodles were cooked al dente and the rice cakes were soft just how they should be. Even though we didn't get to the BBQ yet, I couldn't stop eating this because it was just too good!</div>

<b>Grapefruit and Blue Lemon Mocktail</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
These drinks usually come with soju, but you can always order them without it. They were pretty sweet without the soju, but were quite refreshing with our meal. If you're not a fan of sweet drinks, I'd suggest you don't order this because it can be a bit too much.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Pork Belly (Samgyupsal) 삼겹살</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Coming back from Korea just a few weeks prior to this tasting, it was hard not to compare because the BBQ in Korea was out of this world. But regardless, I tried my best to keep an open mind because Canadian meat tastes completely different.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The samgyupsal came in two thin strips which were easy to grill. We let it cook until they were extra crispy because it gave them more flavour. </div>

</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Ssam</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
You can eat the meat straight from the grill with dipping sauce, or you can make a ssam. Ssam basically means to wrap with a leafy vegetable, such as lettuce or perilla leaves. Here I've put together a ssam with samgyupsal, slices of raw garlic and ssamjang. It's totally up to you what you decide to put in your ssam. Be creative!<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Garlic Pork</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We really enjoyed the garlic pork. They gave us two thick pieces that were covered in a garlic and green onion sauce. The pork was quite tender and the flavours really marinated deep into the meat. It was especially nice to have bits of crispy garlic on the pork because it added extra flavour.<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Korean-style Beef </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This was our favourite out of all the meat we tried! To our surprise, the beef was very tender and juicy with tons of delicious flavour from the marinade. It tasted as if the beef was marinated for a long time. Highly recommend!<br />

Overall, I really enjoyed Little Piggy's and I personally think that their restaurants offer the best Korean BBQ in Toronto. I would definitely go back for their Korean-style beef and tteokbokki the next time I'm in the area!<br />
<br />
<i>*Although my meal at Little Piggy's was free, all my opinions are honest and reflect my own personal experiences.*</i><br />

Toronto BBQ week, presented by Samuel Adams, had officially ended yesterday. There were a total of 15 BBQ restaurants participating throughout the GTA, offering a $15 dish that included a pint of Samuel Adams Boston Lager.<br />
<br />
One of those participating restaurants was Greenwood Smokehouse BBQ, located in Greektown right on Danforth. The restaurant specializes in their house-smoked meats including pulled pork, smoked chicken, brisket, pork ribs, and much more. The interior of the restaurant had a rustic charm with fun decor throughout the place.<br />
<br />

<b>Samuel Adams Boston Lager</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We started off with a pint of Samuel Adams Boston Lager which had a full-bodied flavour with some citrus and sweet notes. This was my kind of beer!</div>
<br />
<img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgi8_8p6HlvT4__20uRgUFPAM7mH7TD5mq1VsVrIM3PQWUTEF6xvm2RfMJmgn1IhosJf9lBa8_8zu_wNJNR-0myPPCgANDXx2k6caJnR1cWWJxzv1NIa_A8lyBeSBXoSIRb60auNQ09saBo/s640/bbq3.jpeg" width="640" /><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Smoked Pastrami Short Ribs</b> ($15 incl. beer)<br />
Cooked in a wood-log smoke with a side of roasted cauliflower puree, <br />
mustard jus, pickled radishes & chive oil.</div>
<br />
The portion was quite small, at around 4 oz. of meat, but was beautifully presented on a bed of cauliflower puree. The short ribs had a lot of different flavours from the in-house rub and wood-log smoke - very delicious! I especially liked the creamy cauliflower puree, along with the mustard jus and chive oil. All the components in the dish worked very well together to produce a fantastic, flavourful meal! Too bad the portion wasn't bigger haha.<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Tennessee Hot Chicken </b>($17)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Buttermilk brined, bone-in chicken crispy fried to order, <br />
then smothered in house-made spicy sauce. <br />
Topped with collards and served on challah. </div>
<br />
Kevin decided to order the Tennessee Hot Chicken that was offered in their regular menu. I was able to try some of his chicken which had delicious tangy and spicy flavours. The collard greens had a slight bitterness which was perfect in balancing out the dish.<br />
<br />
It was a nice experience trying out Greenwood Smokehouse for Toronto's BBQ week because now I've found a great BBQ restaurant that offers a variety of house-smoked meats. We will definitely be back for more!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ice cream shops have been popping up all across Toronto, adding their own unique style to the standard ice cream on a cone. One store that set themselves apart from the rest is Nanashake. They offer 100% vegan frozen desserts using plant-based ingredients, giving you not only a tasty treat but a delicious and healthy alternative to ice cream.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Nanashake currently offers 7 different flavours for their soft serve including Strawberry Funshine, Chocolate Delight, Spiced Date, and more. They also sell Nanapops, which are frozen popsicles, with more than 15 flavours to choose from. Their main ingredient to make these delectable treats are organic bananas that are frozen and then blended to create a smooth and creamy dessert!</div>
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Strawberry Funshine</b></div>
<br />
I ordered the Strawberry Funshine which came in an incredibly cute cup! The soft serve had a nice creamy texture that was also firm at the same time. I loved how the sweetness was subtle and that I could taste all the natural flavours from the banana and strawberries. After finishing the entire cup, I felt refreshed and it didn't leave a heavy feeling as ice cream would.<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
Strawberry Nanapop</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Kevin wanted to try the Strawberry Nanapop which he really enjoyed. He also mentioned how clean and healthy it tasted without all the artificial flavourings you would get from other frozen desserts. From someone who loves his strawberry dairy ice creams, he gave this a high rating!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
If you're in the North York area, I suggest you try Nanashake for yourself because not only is it very delicious, it's a healthy dessert that will leave you feeling great and satisfied!</div>
