In many American Chinese restaurants around Hawaii, you will see the term pu pu on their menus which is considered as appetizers or hor d'oeuvres. A pu pu platter will usually consist of an assortment of meats, seafood, egg rolls and wontons, but has now evolved to include a whole variety of unique finger foods.

Uncle Bo's Pupu Bar & Grill offers a pu pu menu with many delicious items that are perfect for sharing. They also offer main courses such as steaks, seafood dishes, pizzas, pastas, as well as a kids menu. We learned about this restaurant online after seeing many great reviews for their pu pu menu. The restaurant was very easy to find and there was parking right next to the restaurant for around $5. Upon entering, we found the place to be very packed but luckily we made reservations in advance and was able to secure a table. The restaurant was quite dark which made it difficult to take nice photos of the place and food (as shown in some pictures using the dreaded flash).

Since it was our first time dining at the restaurant, we needed help choosing the best items. Our server was very attentive and helped us choose several popular dishes from their pu pu menu.

Yobo Wings

Korean-style spicy chicken wings

We love hot chicken wings and these wings did not disappoint! Tender, juicy meat with delicious seasonings, these wings were probably the best we've ever tried. They were pretty spicy, but just the way we like it. 

Boco-Rota 

Garlic cheesy-bread, prime-rib strips,
sauteed mushrooms and mozzarella cheese

The garlic bread was really soft with a thick layer of melted mozzarella cheese on top that was very tasty. The sauteed mushrooms and prime-rib strips were fantastic and went really well with the cheesy-bread. Really amazing!

Kalua Pig Sliders

Pulled pork in pineapple BBQ sauce
served in toasted sweet Taro buns

The Kalua pig slider was very savory with hints of sweetness from the pineapple and taro bun. They were quite filling so be sure to have enough room to eat them.

Pan roast with lobster & crab meat, clams, scallop & shrimp

We finished our meal with this amazing seafood dish. All the seafood tasted very fresh and the sauce had a thick and creamy consistency that went perfectly with rice.

This was another wonderful meal in Hawaii and I can't wait to go back the next time I visit! I highly recommend all the items we ordered because there wasn't a single thing we didn't like about them.
