Big Daddy's Bourbon Street Bistro & Oyster Bar is a restaurant that offers people of Toronto a taste of New Orleans with their authentic Cajun and Creole flavours. Located in the busy street of King Street West, you will find Big Daddy's hidden away downstairs but can be easily spotted at night with it's illuminating sign. Their menu offers a great selection of delicious seafood dishes and guests also have the option of choosing from their 3 Course Prix Fixe menu for $29.

This past Friday was my dad's birthday and so Kevin wanted to take my parents and I for dinner to celebrate. We originally had planned on going to Copacabana for dinner but once we got there, there was a two hour wait time. After some brainstorming, we decided to go to Big Daddy's because we've been there many times before and knew they had delicious food. Kevin and I ordered from their Prix Fixe menu and my parents ordered from the regular menu, getting a soup to share for their starters.

Shock Top White ($7.25 each).
Kevin and I ordered a pint of Shock Top and both my parents ordered a pint of Keiths ($7.25 each).

Clam Chowder ($3.50). Creamy & rich with lots of clams, served with oyster crackers.
From the Prix Fixe menu, we both ordered the clam chowder which tasted amazing. I've had this many times before and it never disappoints! The soup is smooth and creamy with rich flavours from the clams. Definitely a must-have.

Seafood Gumbo ($8). A classic, hearty Louisiana-style soup with shrimp and crab.
My parents shared the seafood gumbo because the waitress said that it might be too filling to get one each considering the mains they ordered (Mixed Platter). They both enjoyed the gumbo and my mom especially loved it because it reminded her of the time she tried it when she visited New Orleans.

Chef's Choice - Dozen Malpeque Oysters ($24).
The oysters were very fresh and were gone within seconds.

8 oz. New York Striploin ($22). Served with roasted red skin potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a cracked pepper infused demi sauce.
I chose the steak from the Prix Fixe menu and asked for medium rare. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted great with the cracked pepper sauce. The vegetables were nice and crispy which went well with the steak.

Southern-Fried Chicken ($22). Southern spiced boneless chicken served on mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables and topped with a chunky garlic & tomato sauce.
Kevin ordered the chicken from the Prix Fixe menu and he loved it. He said the chicken was very tender and moist on the inside and that the tomato sauce was delicious.

Big Daddy's Mixed Platter ($35). Broiled or pecan-crusted jump shrimp, half lobster, blackened catfish and jalapeno bacon-wrapped scallops. Served with seasonal vegetables and Creole-style rice.
Both my parents ordered the Mixed Platter because it offered a bit of everything. I tried some of the bacon, shrimp and lobster and I have to say that everything was absolutely delicious! The seasonings they used were very tasty and they enhanced the flavours of the seafood.

Chocolate Ice Cream ($3.50). Drizzled with bourbon chocolate sauce.
From the Prix Fixe menu, Kevin chose the chocolate ice cream which was very creamy and delightful.

Pecan Tart a la Mode ($3.50). Warm pecan tart topped with vanilla ice cream.
I ordered the pecan tart and it was one of the best desserts I've had at a restaurant. The pecan tart was still very hot and fresh, and the filling tasted wonderful with the perfect amount of sweetness. The ice cream elevated the dessert and tide all the amazing flavours together.

Overall, we had a great experience at Big Daddy's and enjoyed the delicious food as always. I recommend choosing from the 3 course Prix Fixe menu because they offer a variety of different dishes to choose from and it's all worth it for the price of $29.
