Hokkaido Ramen Santouka is a popular Ramen franchise that originated from Japan and can now be found internationally around Asia and here in North America. Ramen is a Japanese noodle soup dish that uses wheat noodles and different flavour soup bases with toppings. The broth is usually rich in flavour making it the perfect go-to meal on a cold winters day.

A few weeks ago, I had visited Ramen Santouka with my bf to try out their ramen. We ordered Gyoza, Japanese pan-fried dumplings, for starters and we both ordered Toroniku Kara Miso Ramen with an egg on the side each. The toppings that are included with the ramen come on a separate plate consisting of pork jowl, bamboo shoot, jelly ear and scallions.

The gyoza and ramen were delicious and perfect for the chilly weather outside. A couple things I'd like to comment on would be that I personally didn't like the taste of the bamboo shoot so I gave it to my bf who didn't mind it; secondly, although the broth was very delicious it was a bit too salty for me; and finally, the price they charged was pretty expensive compared to what we've normally paid for at other ramen restaurants. I'm not sure if we'll be coming here again, but if we do I will definitely try a different soup base and see if it's less salty than the one I ordered.

Santouka Handmade Gyoza ($5.50). Handmade fried pork dumplings.

Toroniku Kara Miso Ramen ($16.40). Simmered pork jowl and spicy-hot miso flavoured ramen.
Egg ($1.60). Soft boiled egg.
