Name: Basil Box
Location: 351 Yonge Street, Toronto (Ryerson University SLC)
Cuisine: Thai & Vietnamese
Website: www.thebasilbox.com

Today is the Grand Opening for Basil Box's second store, located downtown at Ryerson University SLC. Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending their soft opening with many other foodies to get a preview of what their menu has to offer. You will find a mix between Thai and Vietnamese cuisine that was inspired by the exciting street markets of South East Asia. At Basil Box, they provide fresh ingredients where you can mix and match them to create your own special meal.

The interior design is very trendy with modern furnishings, giving a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for diners. During the day you will see this store filled with light from the large windows throughout the place.

The concept of Basil Box is straight forward, quick and easy with a whole variety of different options to create the perfect meal. The servers are there to help you explain any questions you may have about the ingredients. They also have specialty sides to go with your meal such as Mango Salad, Summer Rolls, Sweet Mango Rice Parfait, and many more.

How to order:
1. Get your box started with salad, noodles or rice
2. Choose 2 veggies
3. Select a protein
4. Pick a sauce from mild to spicy
5. Add your toppings

Here I've put together a box that includes:
Chilled Rice Noodles
Charred Sweet Potatoes
Sauteed Peppers
Five-spice Steak
Mix of Tangy Tamarind & Classic Peanut Sauce
Pickled Carrots & Daikon Radish
Crushed Peanuts
Cilantro & Basil
This meal was very light and refreshing, and I especially liked how all the flavours blended well together.

Chicken Salad ($3.75) | Vietnamese style salad with chicken and a fish sauce dressing.

Mango Salad ($3.25) | Fresh mangos, coriander, mint, crispy shallots, crushed peanuts, fish sauce and lime juice (Available only at select locations).

Summer Roll ($3.00) | With peanut dipping sauce.

Sweet Mango Rice Parfait ($2.50) | Coconut rice with mango (Available only at select locations),

Veggie Sticks ($3.00) | Thai balsamic dipping sauce.

Chiang Mai Trail Mix | Toasted coconut, candied ginger, diced papaya, lime peanuts and lemon pumpkin seeds.

Macrons ($5.25) | Thai Tea & Ginger Lime.

Pineapple Rose Soda | Pineapple and rose flower flavours made with pure cane sugar and GMO free. This drink was light with nice flavours from the rose flower, and best of all, it's GMO free!

Passion Fruit Lychee Soda | Passion fruit and lychee flavours made with pure cane sugar and GMO free. This drink was so delicious and refreshing! You can taste both flavours and the sweetness was right on - not too much or not too little. You have to try this!!

Our goodie bag that was given to all the foodies after the event. Cold brew coffee, macarons and Chiang Mai trail mix. All these items can be purchased at Basil Box!

Special thanks to Pete for extending the invitation to Basil Box's media event last night. I had a wonderful experience tasting all the food and meeting many foodies!

If you're looking for a fresh and healthy meal with delicious South East Asian flavours, I highly recommend Basil Box! It's a great place to get a meal to go, or to dine in and enjoy the beautiful and spacious interior.
