I'm a big fan of Thai curry and I've been meaning to try Khao San Road for the longest time but never got the chance since I don't travel downtown often; so when I did have the opportunity to go downtown a few weeks ago, I made sure I ate at Khao San Road for dinner with Kevin. We didn't have any reservations so we just showed up hoping that there would be seats available. Once we got there, the restaurant was completely packed and we were told there was a 30 minute wait. I gave my name/number to the hostess and we walked a few stores down to Starbucks to grab a coffee and wait. After 20 minutes, the hostess called to tell us there were seats available.

The restaurant was quite jam packed with several large tables that were shared among diners. The noise level was really loud because the distance between each table was small and you can clearly hear the next person's conversation. After looking at the menu, we decided to order the Garlic Chicken starter to share, I ordered Green Curry and Kevin ordered Khao Soi.

Garlic Chicken ($9). Chicken, panko crust, garlic, fresh kaffir lime leaf, naam djeem dipping sauce.
The chicken was made fresh to order and had a wonderful crisp on the outside, with tender and juicy meat on the inside. The kaffir lime leaf flavoured the chicken really well and made it taste different than a typical fried chicken tender, something we've never tasted before.

Chicken Green Curry ($14). Green curry, bamboo shoot, green bell pepper, thai basil, kaffir lime leaf, coconut milk.
For the spiciness of my chicken green curry, I ordered "Thai Spicy". At first, the curry wasn't too spicy but after a while I noticed that the spiciness slowly built up in my mouth to the point where I had to take breaks in between each spoonful, which I didn't mind since I love spicy food. The curry had a creamy consistency and the flavours were very bold and delicious.

Beef Khao Soi ($14). Egg noodles, golden curry, coconut milk, crispy noodles, scallions, coriander, lime.
Kevin also ordered his dish "Thai Spicy" which he didn't think was spicy at all (he can handle spice better than me). I had a taste of his broth and it was very rich in flavours and absolutely delicious. Even though I liked my curry, I preferred his dish over mine.

Overall, we enjoyed our dishes and cannot wait to try other items on their menu. Next time, we will probably visit Khao San Road during the day when it's less busy so that it's not too crowded and noisy.
