Cuisine: Korean
Price: $9
On a cold and windy day like today, it's nice to have some hot stew to warm you up! My bf and I went to Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu in North York and ate some hot and spicy Korean soon tofu for lunch. Soon tofu is a Korean silken tofu stew containing seafood, meat or vegetables, and often served bubbling in a hot stone pot.
I ordered the Kimchi Soon Tofu (kimchi, beef & pork) which comes with Dolsotbab (stone pot rice). You can choose the level of spiciness from white, mild, medium, regular (spicy) and extra spicy. For the side dishes, we were given kimchi, seasoned soy bean sprouts, beans in sweet sauce, radish kimchi, and we were each given an egg. As mentioned earlier, the soon tofu comes out bubbling in the stone pot which you can then crack your egg into the stew to allow it to cook. The broth is very rich and savory with the perfect amount of spice (regular spicy) and the silken tofu is so soft that it melts in your mouth. I've tried soon tofu at many different Korean restaurants in Toronto and nothing can compare to Buk Chang Dong. If you haven't tried this restaurant yet, you're missing out!
